Product details

Think you've just been scammed or hacked? Start at step 1 and work down. If your phone has suddenly lost signal, we suggest starting at step 5.

This is a printable checklist for UK households. It puts the steps in a clear order, so you don't have to piece them together from different websites.

What's inside

  • A one-page "what to do first" summary to keep with your bank cards
  • Step 1, money: calling your bank on the number on your card, or 159
  • Step 2, email: getting back in, changing the password, and checking the recovery details and forwarding rules
  • Step 3, reporting: Report Fraud (which replaced Action Fraud in December 2025) or Police Scotland, plus where to forward scam texts (7726) and scam emails (report@phishing.gov.uk)
  • Step 4, contacts and identity: warning your contacts, with a short message you can copy, and checking your credit file
  • Step 5, "No service": what to do, and in what order, if your phone suddenly loses signal
  • A fill-in record for dates, names and reference numbers
  • A source list, so you can check every number and web address yourself

Who it's for

  • People in the UK who think they've been scammed or had an account hacked
  • Anyone helping a partner, parent or friend through it

What it isn't

It's a self-serve checklist, not advice about your particular case. It can't promise you'll get money back. It covers only the basic account steps after a scam. Setting your accounts up to be harder to break into is covered in more detail in the Account Lockdown Kit.

Secordit isn't part of the government, the police or any bank, and none of the organisations named in the checklist has reviewed it. Numbers and web addresses were checked on 29 October 2026.
